CEREM is functioning under the Travancore - Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act 12/1955 and was registered in Cochin, India in 2003
Objective of CEREM is
To bring together scientific talents available in various organizations and institutions to focus on specific issues.
To create social interaction of scientists and scientific institutions to make pursuits of science and technology more relevant.
To create brain pools to advice and guide policy makers and people at large.
To provide a platform fro young researchers to continue their research career for the benefit of our nation thereby containing the brain drain and under employment of highly qualified educated youth in the field of earth and environmental sciences.
To attract post doctoral researchers of Indian origin working abroad to come back to the home country through short term research projects to utilise their skills and expertise for the Indian society.
To make significant contribution to earth and environmental sciences research and applications in India through local capacity building and increased regional and international cooperation.
To educate and train environmental and earth scientists and especially young researchers through research supervision, and organisation of courses, workshops and seminars and facilitation exchange visits with collaborating institutes of similar objectives of national interest around the world.
To inculcate a scientific temperament among the people.
To promote field application for science and technology.
To implement action programmes of science & technology for conservation of natural resources.
To bring latest developments in science and technology to students at all levels.
To establish centres for the promotion of science and technology.
To carry out and propose scientific solutions to specific problems of day-to-day life.
To carry out research and development projects with funds from Government, national and international agencies and private sector.
To prepare and execute projects and to carry out social activities for the development of living conditions of people with the help and support of Governments and other national and international agencies.
