Presently on sabbatical from Nansen Environmental Research Centre (India) to implement a project on Ocean colour application studies on the biogeo constituents in the coastal and estuarine waters of Greater Kochi region in the SW coast of India, in the Department of Physical Oceanography, Cochin University of Science and Technology. Prior to his service as Scientist in the Nansen Environmental Research Centre (NERCI, India ), he had worked as Senior Research Fellow under the Government of India (Ministry of Environment) funded project in the same department. At the Nansen Centre he was instrumental in constituting an International Scientific Research Advisory Board with distinguished scientists in the field of Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences to provide an impetus to environmental and earth sciences research and applications in India through local capacity building as well as increased regional and global co-operation. He has been in the stages of initiating many international collaborative research programmes in ocean environmental studies of Indian Ocean region with outstanding research centres, arranged training programmes of NERCI in mathematical modelling and remote sensing applications and organized an international conference on Coastal System Variability. He has been teaching and guiding research at post-graduate level in the Department of Physical Oceanography of CUSAT for the last several years.

He is the recipient of University Grants Commission's ( India ) Junior Research Fellowship, Berkner Travel fellowship of American Geophysical Union (AGU) and DST-Fast Track Young Scientist fellowship by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Dr. Ajith Joseph has about 19 publications in national/international journals and in the proceedings of national/international conferences. He has participated and presented research outputs in several international national/conferences with the sponsorship of International and Multilateral funding agencies.
